My all time favourite book is IN THE ABSENCE OF MEN by Philippe Besson.

I really like the Desert Flower by Waris Dirie
I love love love John Connolly, esp. his Charlie Parker series, starting with Every Dead Thing. Can be a little graphic (blood n guts) in a few places. But soooooo very good!
I have read all of the Ngaio Marsh books a dozen times I think
