Not-Monday madness

Often on Monday I post about something I am mad about, but my previous post about my new-look blog had me thinking about not being mad about shabby chic.

Shabby chic is just not me - I'm an IKEA kind of girl, in fact I may have mentioned before that we have almost the complete IKEA house!

I'm not chintzy, or floral, or pink or tizzy!
And shabby chic can be all those things.

But I do like aged, distressed timbers that have a story to tell.
I like weathered, painted surfaces.
I like bird cages and damask designs.

I like old writing on old postcards.

These are some things that I do like!

What is your opinion of shabby chic?
Are you shabby or chic??
What is your style?

oh yeah! I love the patina of age on timber and metal - it's honest, and tells of its history.
But I hate frills, and tizzy stuff. Florals? depends entirely upon the floral, AND how it's used. and pink? it's just another colour, and look fab or terrible, depending on how it's used. But
So, like everything aesthetic, it all depends on how the elements work together :)

Ohhh Tess, love your finds! I don't think of myself as a girly girl but I am definitely drawn to certain elements of "shabby chic", as you have highlighted here.

And I do love the way your blog looks, it's really pretty. Hmm...maybe I am a girly girl after all? LOL. :)

I'm definitely NOT a shabby girl!! I'm chic all the way! Although there are exceptions to every rule. I do love the victorian, poetic old writing style on things. But if it's 'distressed' wood, worn, or any other description usually...I run i the opposite...complete opposite...direction!! :-) {Too many farm life memories I think. LOL}

gorgeous finds - thanks for including my tags! i actually like the relaxed feel of Shabby chic style - not too many frilly stuff, doilies and pink but more a beach house all white, chilled out shabby chic - hard to explain haha.
i think RAchel Ashwell the creator of Shabby Chic gets it right!
